Carroll Ruth Wirta

She was born on May 30, 1933 in Inglewood, California to parents Russell "Buck" and Ruth Walters (High).

Carroll was born and raised in Inglewood, California with her identical twin sister, Laurel.

She enjoyed riding horses and loved sports; swimming, basketball, and baseball, and graduated from Inglewood High School in 1951. After high school, Carroll attended El Camino Jr. College for two years, then transferred to UCLA where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1955. The Walters family had a cabin in Wrightwood, California. In 1956 she went to a party in Wrightwood where Air Force pilots were attending and met her husband Vic. They were engaged 6 months later.

After their marriage in Los Angeles 1957, they made their home in Wrightwood to be closer to George Air Force Base. After numerous moves including to the Philippines, Vic retired and they moved their family of 5 children to Gaston, Oregon in 1971. Carroll worked for Gaston High School as a Health and Physical Education teacher. She also coached volleyball, basketball, and track. During that time, she received her Masters degree in Education at Pacific University in Forest Grove in 1977. She was also the Athletic Director at Gaston High School for 5 years. She was awarded Athletic Director of the Year in Oregon in 1989. Carroll retired in 1992 and travelled with Vic in their RV. After Vic's passing in 2007, Carroll moved to Claremont Community in Portland where she enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her friends.

Carroll is preceded in death by her husband, Victor H. Wirta; son Kirt Wirta; and her twin sister, Laurel Long.

She is survived by daughters Karen N. Wirta of St. Helens, OR; Kristine L. Wirta of Onalaska, WA; Kathryn L. Csergei (husband, David) of Silverlake, WA; Kim V. Morse (husband, Douglas) of Portland, OR; Granddaughter Brianna Pruett of St. Helens, OR; Grandson Kevin Bivens of Phoenix, AZ; and great-grandson Landon Bivens, also of Phoenix, AZ.

There will be a graveside service at Willamette National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023 at 1:30pm followed by a celebration at her home at 3:00PM- 16183 NW Canterwood Way, Portland OR 97229.
