Catherine "Cathie" Mae Grove

Born on December 19, 1949, in Vancouver, Washington, Cathie was the cherished daughter of Leroy and Sally Shore. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1968. A year later, on September 13, 1969, she married the love of her life, John Michael Grove.

Their love story began during John's service in Vietnam, when a mutual friend encouraged Cathie to write to him. Their letters blossomed into a beautiful connection, and upon his return, they met, fell in love, and soon after began their life together. Following their marriage, they moved to Arizona for a year while John completed his military service.

Cathie devoted her early years to raising her children as a stay-at-home mom. In 1979, she began working for Portland Public Schools as a teacher's aide, a role she held with dedication across several schools until her retirement.

She had a deep love for creativity and adventure. Whether it was ceramics, knitting, painting, reading, line dancing, traveling, camping, or boating—Cathie embraced life with energy and joy. But above all, she found the greatest fulfillment in being with her family. She never missed a game, recital, or family gathering and was always present for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Cathie was known for her loving and selfless spirit, her unwavering support, and her inner and outer beauty. She was a constant source of strength and warmth to everyone who knew her. Family was always her top priority, and she poured her heart into every role she played—as a devoted wife, a caring daughter, a loyal friend, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.

Cathie is survived by her daughters: Rhonda Harvey (Troy), Tami Lake, and Stacey Harvey (Bobby); grandchildren: Noah Harvey (Jennifer), Tiffany Harvey, Nicole Harvey, Zachary Harvey, Logan Harvey, Taryn McDaniel (Sam), Allie Lake, and Keller Lake; great-grandchildren: Peighton, Heighlee, Hayden, Aubree, Weslee Mae, Brooklyn, Samuel, Kinsley, and Nevaeh; and her sister-in-law, Victoria Davis (Jeff).

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Grove, and her parents, Leroy and Sally Shore.

A memorial service to honor Cathie’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Portland. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved John.

Cathie’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
