Chan was born on January 30, 1947, in Portland, Oregon. He was the son of the late A. Duane and Barbara Pinkerton. Chan is survived by his beloved spouse of 42 years, Beverly Pinkerton, and their children, Jeffrey Pinkerton (Clair), Lynnette Buckland (Kyle), and Jennifer Herbst (Joseph). He was a devoted grandfather to Levi, Henry, Hailey, and Charlotte. Chan is also survived by his sister, B. Jeanne Pinkerton, and his loyal Standard Poodle, Tanner.
Chan's family was the center of his world, and he dedicated his life to their happiness and well-being. He worked tirelessly to provide them with a life he never had, always encouraging them to challenge themselves and be kind to others. When asked what he wanted his children to share, he answered with a resounding "to be kind."
Chan's career spanned many years, and he retired from Intel in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. He was a proud alumnus of Portland State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Business Administration Information Systems, General Management and Human Resource Management.
In his free time, Chan had a passion for dancing. He enjoyed various styles, including square dancing, round dancing, country waltz, and cha-cha. He and Beverly traveled in their RV to dance festivals across Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and California. Chan cherished the friendships he made on the dance floor and embraced the joy of movement. He also found fulfillment in his involvement with the Boy Scouts as a district commissioner, helping his son achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and beyond. Car shows, gardening, and tending to plants and flowers were among his other cherished hobbies.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Chan will be held on Thursday, November 30th, 2023, at Zeller Chapel of the Roses, located at 2107 NE Broadway, Portland, OR 97232.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, a cause that held great importance to Chan.
Chan Pinkerton will forever be remembered as a kind, intelligent, and caring gentleman. His love for his family was immeasurable, and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire all those who knew him.
