Charlotte grew up in the Parkrose neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, and became a beloved part of the communities of Troutdale and Gresham. She was a longtime member of Gresham United Methodist Church and generously gave her time to many organizations throughout the area. Over the years, she volunteered with Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, Shriners Children’s, Providence Child Center, the Gresham Senior Center, North Gresham Grade School, and the Troutdale Historical Society.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald Freeman; her son, Sean Freeman; and her stepdaughter, Deborah Freeman. She was a proud grandmother to Serena, Sierra, McKenzie, and Hunter, and great-grandmother to Joshua, Isaac, Liam, and Owen. No matter how near or far away they were, Charlotte’s family was always the most important thing to her.
Charlotte left behind two notes, written on her refrigerator, that her family felt were especially fitting to share:
“When God closes a door on life—he opens a window in heaven.”
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
A memorial service honoring Charlotte’s life will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home on Friday, September 11, 2026. A viewing will be held from 1pm-2pm, followed by the Funeral at 2pm.
In accordance with Charlotte’s wishes, those who would like to honor her memory are encouraged to make a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name.
