

Chester was born to John and Katherine Neuharth on August 10, 1924, in Eureka, South Dakota. He spent his early childhood on a farm where his favorite chore was breaking horses. His family moved to Warrenton, Oregon when he was a teen. At seventeen, he joined the Army and served his tour stateside selling war bonds and testing communication systems at the Pentagon among other duties. Returning to Warrenton after the war, he met and married Mary Anna Bosshart. They moved to Portland shortly after and he worked in the construction industry. Many of his projects were community related such as the Bonneville fish ladder, the addition to Timberline Lodge and the bandstand at the Oregon Zoo. He coached youth baseball for many years and was proud to see many of his players advance to college and professional ball.
He is survived by his six children, Steve Neuharth (Beth), Denise Cooper (Mike), Renee Scott, Matt Neuharth, Felice Denis (Ken) and Mitch Neuharth; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
He passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025 at 100 years old.
