OBITUARY

Chrissa Chase

June 27, 1960June 7, 2021

Chrissa Chase was born near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on June 27th, 1960 and departed this mortal plane on June 7th, 2021. She was born under the astrological sign Cancer, kicked cancer’s ass once, but lost the second round. In the time she had on this planet, she achieved every goal she ever set, and a few more, to boot.

Chrissa was the fiercest, most passionate person alive. As she lived her best life, she left the rest of us in awe at her sheer determination and skill. Those of us fortunate enough to have met her needed sunscreen and hats to stay in her light.

She blew through every roadblock that fate dropped in front of her, charging into her next chapters with the gusto of a Knight of old. She was both fearsome to behold, and fearless in the face of adversity.

When you met her, it was like introducing yourself to an atomic bomb. She had that kind of impact. If you were fortunate enough to call her your friend, you understood that you had a woman in your life who had your back. And your front. She was both ally, and co-conspirator, and not above getting into some heathen mischief.

Chrissa was easy to find in a crowd. You tuned your radar to that boisterous laugh, and you’d find her in moments. She laughed deeply, and often, and it was not polite. It rumbled up from her belly, and once it blew, spread sunshine on everyone who heard it.

Chrissa was what happened when an immovable object meets an irresistible force. She was pure energy. All you could really do was watch her go. And go she did.

Chrissa tackled many careers in her life, mastering every one of them through her single-minded determination. She didn’t dabble, she immersed, and conquered.

From babysitting rockstars, to working in horror films, to using her artistic touch to design a modern home, to telling you stories of terroir and wine history, Chrissa’s depth of knowledge and fantastic storytelling could entertain you for hours.

Her lust for the very best that life had to offer, had her sharing that “best,” with her friends. She ruined many a good man and woman with this habit. Her knowledge of wine, and exquisite palate rubbed off on everyone around her, costing them lots of money, and keeping them from from drinking anything but the best.

That girl, from Pittsburgh, was the whole package. She was a certified sommelier and a Master of Champagne, an interior designer, a remodeler, a cinematographer, a legal assistant, an amazing chef, and the hostess who could make you happily don a caftan or a porn stache, so you could mow down 50 lbs of crabs at her 70’s parties. No one looks good in a caftan. No one. It was worth it.

Chrissa was preceded in death by her beloved stepson Mike Lutheran and many pets that she gave great lives to including Bear, Tasha, Alex, and Lola. She was also preceded by her first husband Vince, her parents and a sister. She leaves behind a raft of heartbroken souls including her devoted husband Dan, daughter Kelly, her adorable french bulldog Poe, and her audacious and talented friends Tina, LaDona, and Bridget as well as many other friends and family who will miss her spirit.

A visitation for close family and friends will be held on Saturday June 12th at 10 am in Portland followed by a burial at the Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville Oregon at 1 pm. Tears will flow, laughter will ensue, and glasses will be raised in her spirit. Her extended circle of friends are invited to Portland to celebrate her life on the anniversary of her birth where they will feast on the best recipes and wine culminated and curated in the style of Chrissa. Or, as close as we can manage.

In lieu of flowers please get vaccinated. Those who are already vaccinated are invited to share a great bottle of wine or an amazing experience with a loved one in remembrance of Chrissa’s spirit.

I love you more than I can even express. I am listening to the rain in Portland, thinking of how much you loved this verdant, fertile, place. And your husband just Rick-rolled me. I’m not sure how you top this, but I’ll be seeing you someday. Please don’t make me listen to Stevie Nicks. -LaDona

May Chrissa always live on in everyone’s memories.
I will certainly toast to her next time I enjoy a glass of wine. She had a light that burned so brightly.

Chrissa was a force of nature. The world is going to be a much more boring place without her in it. My heart goes out to Dan and her whole family. I can't imagine the hole she is leaving for them. Chrissa and I share a birthday and this June 27th I will raise a glass of good wine ( she would certainly frown if I was drinking the cheap stuff) and think of her.
