Teina, 52, lost her hard-fought battle against colon cancer at Marquis Vermont Hills, in Portland, OR.
Teina was born April 30, 1972 at Kimbrough Army Hospital, Ft. Meade, MD to Patricia Ann Baker and Chester Lee Leonard. From an early age she showed a strong, independent spirit and an abiding affection for animals. In later life she became an accomplished equestrienne spending hours on horseback in the company of her daughter Zia on their mounts Domino and Twizzler. Teina was a talented artist and nature lover with an infectious free spirit and an embodiment of compassion.
Teina earned an Associate Degree from Lane Community College and was employed as a paralegal, most recently in association with a law firm providing legal assistance to abused children. In earlier years she displayed a strong sense of adventure and a love of outdoor activities that included kayaking and hiking.
Over the years, she was a regular attendant at music festivals and, with her family and close circle of friends, enjoyed the artistry of Prince, Harry Styles, and Chevelle.
Teina made friends easily, enjoyed travel, and was considerate of the needs of others and to the needs of the less fortunate, often providing unheralded assistance to the homeless and down and out.
She was a favorite cook among immediate family and friends. Teina’s loyalty to the musical aspirations of her niece Brittanie was legendary.
An earlier marriage to Jeffery M. Richardson ended in divorce.
Teina is predeceased by her daughter, Zia Richardson and by her father, Chet Leonard. She is survived by son, Jaron Richardson; mother, Patricia Ann Baker; sisters, Tracy Thibodeau and Rikki Leonard; and brothers, Norman Couch and Zayne Knight.
A family visitation service will be held at 11 AM, September 22, 2024 at Ross Hollywood Chapel, in Portland, OR. Memorial contributions in Teina’s name to a charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
