Saylors lost a happy and loyal customer on Friday, October 23, 2015. After a long battle with many health complications, Christine’s life here on earth came to an end. She has been called away to a reunion of sorts with family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Her new journey takes her to a wonderful place where she will be doing all the things she loves but could no longer do here on earth. Music, laughter, cards, plenty of ice cream and being as stubborn as she wants are all guaranteed. It is time for those she left behind to celebrate the love she so openly gave.
Helen Christine Broussard was born on September 25th 1947 to Mary and Richard McCarter. She was born and raised in Portland and spent her life here enjoying the comforts of the Pacific NW. For most of her life, she was a nurse and worked with the elderly population. She met her ex/deceased husband, Hayward Broussard, in 1971 and together they had three children; Joel, Jerome and Jonathan. Christine’s oldest son, Marty, was adopted and looked Christine up when he was an adult. Christine also has three grandchildren. Marty and Marcie have twin girls, Kiana and Makenzie who are 15. Joel and Aimee have a son, Shiloh who is 2. Christine loved her grandchildren dearly, and they were the light of her life.
Christine is survived by: her sister Elizabeth Johnston, Portland; four children - Marty (Marcie) Doyle, University Place, WA; Joel Broussard (Aimee Griffin), Portland OR; Jerome Broussard, Gresham OR; and Jonathan (Cierra) Broussard, Seattle, WA. She is also survived by her three grandchildren as well as her “adopted” sons, Richard Standow and Damarcus Henderson, whom she loved like her own.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, November 2nd at 3pm at Zeller, Chapel of the Roses located at 2107 NE Broadway, Portland OR 97232.
Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a family gathering and all are welcome to attend. This will be located at 4645 SE 33rd PLACE, Portland OR, 97202 (Please note that this is 33rd PLACE, not 33rd Avenue). The gathering is located right off of 33rd place and Holgate.
