Lifelong Portland resident Cora Lee Polzel was born May 23, 1938 to Henry and Bernice (Neal) Kinnamon and passed away after a long fight with Alzheimer’s on April 14, 2019, at the age of 80 in Forest Grove, Oregon.
She attended Jefferson High School. As a teenager, she had fun looking after the race car drivers’ kids at Jantzen Beach Raceway (her father and brother built and raced midget cars ). Her work life included being an enrollment administrator at Mt. Hood Community College for several years and working as a manager for Super Yarn Mart for about fifteen years before retirement. Let it also be said, however, that homemaking and raising four children was also a full-time position.
In 1961, she married Harold Polzel in Vancouver,WA.
Her other interests included all manner of needlework – knitting, crocheting, and creating clothing for children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed yearly deer hunts and camping trips with Harold, vacations to Puerto Vallarta, RV trips and, eventually, extended snowbirding to Yuma, Arizona during the winter.
Cora was preceded in death by a brothers, Zane and Neal, and a sister, Sharon.
She will be remembered by her husband Harold; by their four children, Terry, Ken, Rocky, and Becky; and by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren (with one on the way) as well as two sisters, Kay and Bonnie.
Her life will be celebrated at services on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. in Portland. A 2 pm funeral service will be followed by a 3 pm committal service in the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
