courage to take on new challenges and the willingness to work
exceptionally hard to master them. It was his “can do” attitude
and persistent effort that led to a life rich in roles and
experiences. Soldier, teacher, principal; husband, father, and
grandfather—these were his major roles. But he shone in
minor roles as well, including: athlete, musician, singer,
coordinator of volunteer docents, and gardener
extraordinaire. He accepted his responsibility to his family
fully and with love. Cory was indeed, as the famous poem goes,
the master of his fate, and the captain of his soul.
