Costel Popovici

Costel Popovici, age 51, passed away at his home in Hillsboro, OR on January 23, 2017, after a short, yet difficult, battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Daniela, his daughter Alina, his two brothers Petrica and Neculai, and his grand-daughters Luna and Victoria.

Costel was born and grew up near beautiful Piatra Neamt, Romania. He went to Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi where he met his wife Daniela and also where he earned a Masters in Electrical and Automation Engineering. Their daughter Alina was born while they were finishing the last of their schooling.

Costel was interested in electronics at a young age and he worked in high school and college fixing televisions, spooling motors, and other repairs. Post college he worked as an electrical engineer. At 29 years, he won the US Visa lottery, giving his family the opportunity to move to America. Costel, alongside his wife and daughter, spent his first year in America in Baltimore, MD, after which he moved to Ohio where he spent most of his time in the United States. His last three years were spent living in Oregon, where he and Daniela could be close by to their daughter.

Costel was a family man and loved his wife and his daughter - he did absolutely anything for them. He was an incredible role model, with his social skills, intelligence, and work ethic. Everyone who has met Costel loved his positive attitude and his joyful spirit. He enlightened all around him and he was fun to be around. He loved to entertain others by playing guitar and serving his homemade wine that he made every year.

He spent his last three months of his life with his grand-daughters whom he was eager to meet and love. They helped ease and give joy to him during his last moments.

The calling hours are 6 PM - 8 PM on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Portland, OR. The funeral is at 10 AM on Friday at same location. Skyline Memorial Gardens are located at 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97229.
