being from 1997. Donald Ray "Nick" Nichols was born June 4, 1941 in Bakersfield, CA.
He passed away June 8, 2012 in Clackamas, OR surrounded by his loving family. Nick was full of good cheer & fun to be around. He was the fourth of eleven children of Robert Lee & Audrey Goldie Nichols; a farm laborer and home maker. Being from a large family, provided some wonderful memories.
They worked together in the fields in central California, before Nick left to work in logging in Placerville, CA and then joined the Marines at age 19. Stationed in Hawaii, he met UofH coed Jeanne Moody from Oregon. They married March 19, 1964 & made Palm Springs, CA their first home, while Nick finished his service at 29 Palms, CA. Wanting to start their family and raise their children in the NW, they moved to Portland in 1966. Michael Ray & Scott Patrick arrived in 1967 and 1971 and nothing was more important to Nick than to be a loving and supportive father. Close to family and raising their sons in the David Douglas school district, it was great to be among other supportive families with sporting events, scouts, camping and gathering together for celebrations. With some other fathers he started a Father/Son golf tournament 16 years ago. A fun weekend full of golf and poker with friends and family will continue on in his honor. For forty plus years, Nick enjoyed selling heavy construction equipment on Columbia Blvd. Loving husband to Jeanne in Portland, supportive Dad to Mike (Josephine), London, England, Scott (Colleen) Wilsonville, OR, proud Papa to Hayden 9, Jake 7 and Taylor Ann 3, Wilsonville, OR. Five siblings all of Tulare, CA- Bob Nichols, Sue Mate, Joan Borges, Pamela Colley, Deborah Cox. Fondly known as Uncle Nick by not only his nieces and nephews, but to many others. Predeceased by his parents and siblings Anthony Nichols, Wilma Hallford, Peggy Facciani, Pauline Patton and Shirley Knott. Wherever Nick went, he carried laughter and how we miss him. The family wishes to thank Kaiser at
Sunnyside, Lake Road Clinic & Oregon Artifical Limb for the compassion they showed Nick & our family. As Nick requested, a family gathering of celebration has taken place. Contributions may be given in Nick's honor to Tour DaVita (a 240 mile bike ride to raise money for kidney dialysis in areas that have none) at https://www.tourdavita.org/donate/Scott_Nichols_2946/index.html or to the Oregon Humane Society.
