

Daniel Patrick Heffernan, 69, of Portland passed away on October 1, 2014 at his home of acute leukemia. Dan, was born in Portland May 12, 1945. He was the son of Curtis Vincent and Mary R. (Curran) Heffernan of Portland. Dan graduated from Washington High School in 1963 and immediately joined the Marine Corp where he served for four years; some of that time in Hong Kong at the American Embassy. He left the Marine Corp in 1967 in order to attend Sophia University in Tokyo from which he graduated in 1972. After working in Tokyo and Okinawa in the insurance business, Dan returned to Portland where he has lived since 1974, working in the environmental energy business. Dan is survived by his wife of 35 years Lynn Diane Miller; his brothers Michael V. (Gayle K.) and Barry J. Heffernan, both of Portland; his sister Cathleen Douglas Stone (James M.) of Boston, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Dan is noted for his wit, Irish smile and fine mind. An avid reader, he followed current and business affairs. He enjoyed travel in Asia, Africa and the Philippines. Loyal and loving, he is greatly missed by his family. A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Dan’s name to the Blanchet House.
