

Daniel Dennis May was born on November 25, 1936 in Portland Oregon to John and Rosaline (Davis) May. He passed away on November 30, 2014 in Vancouver Washington at the age of 78. Danny attended grade school in the North Portland area before moving Southeast and attending the Old Washington High School at 11th & Stark.
Danny grew up on 81st avenue and lived there during his school years and into his forties until he bought his own home on 114th street. After moving to the new neighborhood Danny devoted himself to caring for his mother who helped him raise his oldest nephew Thomas Graham.
He was enlisted in the United States Air Force reserves where he worked for 27 years as a Tech Sergeant repairing the radar systems as well as teaching. After being honorably discharged he worked for several years at Union Elevator Companies until his retirement.
In his early years, Danny enjoyed building wooden planes and flying them over the school yard. As a young man he spent his free time night skiing on Mount Hood and scuba diving in a suit he made for himself. Later in life he was known to spend time down on the river hunting for old fishing lures and could be found at night staring at the stars through telescopes he built from parts. In the last 35 years of his life he was an avid gold miner. He owned a mine down in Nevada and loved to travel there frequently searching for treasures.
Danny is survived by his nephews Thomas (Kimberley) Graham, Robin (Robin) Bieberdorf and Rick Lyons; nieces Cheryl Bieberdorf, Kathy Bieberdorf and Barbara Bieberdorf; great nephews Thomas (Kari) Graham, Travis (Jordan)Graham and John Victor.
A Viewing will be held from 12:00pm to 1:00pm with funeral services to follow on Wednesday December 10, 2014 at Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes, 1515 NE 106th Avenue, Portland, OR 97220. He will be laid to rest at Rose City Cemetery, Portland Oregon.
