

David Stanton Halferty was born in Portland, Oregon on July 9, 1940 and passed away on May 26, 2012. David attended University of Oregon, and in 1966 published "Adolescence, Commitment, and Delinquency" as a Research Assistant and Counselor for the Neighborhood Peace Corps. David served in the Peace Corps in Micronesia from February 1974 to April 1975. There he worked as an Adult Education Specialist providing GED programs to high school dropouts, and as a mental health specialist and supervisor of the Neuropsychotic ward. He received his PhD in Sociology from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, and published his doctoral dissertation "A comparison of the Career Assessment Inventory and the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory in a minority, high school drop-out sample" in 1985. David spent several years studying and working to create education and employment opportunities for migrant families throughout the Pacific Northwest. David lived a full life as an academic scholar, community volunteer, and social justice activist. David is survived by his two daughters, Caitlin Cavanagh Halferty, 31, and Caroline Connor Halferty, 28, and an extended family of wonderful nieces and nephews. David left an indelible mark on this world, and we remember his time with us with overwhelming love and appreciation. We are thankful for the enduring influence his will have on us in our lives. His memory lives on through his great works, the many lives he touched, and through those he has left behind. May he now rest in peace, and know that those he loved the most remember him with enduring love and praise. Amen.
