He was born in Portland on December 21, 1958, to Robert and Elizabeth Simpson. He grew up in NE Portland, near the airport, graduating from Parkrose High School. In 1982, he graduated from Oregon State University in Civil Engineering and worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), continuing the legacy of his father, a highway designer for ODOT. As an adult, he lived near Normandale park until the last 8 years of his life.
He loved his chow dogs and enjoyed walking over to the park, where he had a good view of the local baseball games. He enjoyed watching sports and when younger played basketball and did Turkey Bowls with friends, without pads and in all weather. He enjoyed going to the Sandy River and Columbia Gorge area. Eagle creek was a favorite place to visit. He also liked hunting and going into the woods with friends. He could spin a good yarn and enjoyed talking. His favorite place to visit was the islands of Hawaii. He made several trips there.
He is survived by his sister, Julie McBurney, her husband Patrick, and son George; also close friends, Phil Breckon and Robin Callahan. He is preceded by his parents, Robert White Simpson and Elizabeth Ann Simpson.
