David grew up in Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He completed boot camp in San Diego and attended supply school in North Carolina before serving as a supply accountant and courier. His military service also included patrol and guard duties during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. David remained a proud and devoted Marine throughout his life.
Following his military service, David attended Portland State University and went on to a career in logistics management in the orthopedic industry, working for Howmedica and later Smith & Nephew until his retirement in 2010.
David was a devoted father to his two children, Andrea and Jeff. In 1984, he met Debra Bernards on a blind date to the Marine Corps Ball. They married on August 20, 1988, in McMinnville, Oregon, and shared 38 wonderful years of marriage together.
David was known for his intelligence, quick wit, kindness, and generosity. A gentle giant with a love for children, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, model building, and reading. Above all, he treasured his family and the time spent with those he loved.
David is survived by his wife, Debra Thorsnes; his children, Andrea Thorsnes (Sergio Lopez) and Jeff Thorsnes; his grandchildren, Eva Lopez Thorsnes, Osvaldo Lopez Thorsnes, Helena Lopez Thorsnes, and Jack Thorsnes; and his great-granddaughter, Valentina Lopez Benitez.
