Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother, Roland “Ron” Waterhouse, and her sister, Bonnie Waterhouse Matsler.
As a young person, Donna attended 22 schools in 12 years since her father was a preacher appointed to various churches – in Canada, Washington, Idaho, California, and Oregon. She graduated from The Dalles High School in Oregon in 1947. After years of working, Donna proudly earned her designation as a Certified Professional Secretary in 1986. She held several secretarial positions during her career including at Cleveland High School, Radar Pneumatics, Souther, Spalding, et al Law Firm, and 1st Interstate Bank, where she retired as an executive secretary in 1990.
On June 3, 1949, she married Robert “Bob” Reames, who passed in 1969. She later married Charles “Chuck” Campbell on August 20, 1971. Chuck passed in 1986.
Donna loved to travel, particularly with Chuck. They would often begin their trips without a firm destination, traveling within the Pacific Northwest. However, they also took longer, planned trips, including summer family trip with their three “youngest” to British Columbia, Alberta, Montana, and Idaho. Trips for just the two of them had them traveling south and east to California, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. From 1985 through 2016, Donna continued her travels with family and friends with trips to San Francisco and Visalia, California, Idaho, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Washington, DC, as well as to her favorite outlet shopping malls and casinos on the Oregon coast. She took more exotic trips: an Alaskan cruise, a week in Rarotonga, two trips to Hawaii, and, of course, two trips cross-country with Dee in her 18-wheeler.
Donna also enjoyed knitting (including sweaters that were then donated to ministries for Third World Countries), doing jigsaw puzzles, playing table games, and being creative, most recently using colored pencils in adult coloring books. She collected bells and Campbell soup kids memorabilia. A long time church member, Donna served in many ministerial positions, including back-up organist and pianist; church treasurer; counselor for newlyweds; college and adult Sunday school teacher, as well as other positions throughout the years. In 2001, Donna began conquering her life-long fear of water by taking aquatic exercise classes and learning to swim.
She will be remembered and missed by her children Ladeana “Dee” Reames, Cyndy Reames, Shirley DeWolf and her husband Fred; her granddaughters Cori and Riane; and by her great-grandchildren Alexandr, Tifanie, Jennifr, Carson, and Addison. She is further survived by the step-grandchildren with which Fred blessed her: Laura, Alex, Ryan, and Justin; along with step-great-grandchildren Tanner, Nerissa, Tryston, Raef, Tritt, and Ryckon. She is also survived by her step-children Judy, David, Susie, Linda, and Scot, and by multiple step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren from her marriage to Chuck.
Donna’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2024 with a 12 pm chapel funeral at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd in Portland, with a reception to follow.
