Donna Mae Douglass

Born December 3, 1929 – Passing July 2, 2026

Donna was born in Missoula, Montana to parents Nona (Callantine) and Walter Scott McGaugh of Manhattan, Montana. She lived in Manhattan, Montana until her high school years when her family relocated to Spokane, Washington. She graduated from West Valley High School where she was a majorette and part of the pep club. Donna went on to Central Washington University in Ellensburg. She made it one semester before becoming so homesick she returned to her family in Spokane. She then attended and graduated from Kinman Business University. While there she was elected president of Alpha Iota (eye-oh-ta) Sorority. She tried her hand at a career in business administration but quickly learned it was not for her. She then found a job as a “salesgirl” at the local dime store. She quickly was put in charge of several product counters where she paid close attention to her duties and responsibilities. She thoroughly loved her job.

Donna met her future husband, Herb, on a blind date. They were set up by Donna’s best girlfriend and Herb’s best friend. Herb was working for a florist at that time and quickly won Donna’s mother over by bringing her flowers each week when he picked Donna up for a date. Herb and Donna were engaged and married within 6 months on March 14, 1953. They started their family the next year in 1954 when they had Tami and completed their family in 1956 when Deborah was born. Donna spent most days with her girls but did assist Herb in his Fuller Brush business by delivering orders. Donna was a bluebird leader for both girls’ troops and also served as Guardian for their Job’s Daughter’s chapter. She was an accomplished seamstress and tailor and made many of her girl’s clothes. Their dolls had matching outfits as well.

As the girls grew up, Donna decided to go back to work outside the home. She worked for both Fredrick and Nelson and Sears in the stockroom, retiring in 2008. She spent her retirement years with her husband until his death in 2020. They were married 67 years. She loved spending time with her girls, their husbands, her grandkids and great grandkids. She and Herb supported their grandkids in all of their endeavors. They attended as many football, soccer, baseball, basketball and lacrosse games, track meets, piano recitals, plays, orchestra and choir performances as possible. Donna was an avid reader, and her favorite author was Danielle Steele.

Donna made many friends through all phases of her life. Many became life long friends. They came together for coffee, dinners and dancing. Donna loved dancing with Herb and they effortlessly floated across any dance floor. Donna put her family before herself and provided a foundation of love, warmth and caring.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Tami and Deborah (Scott); grandchildren, Terra, Erich, Hilary (Nolan), Bryant, and Liana (Tyelor); and great-grandchildren, Fallon, Jude, Mason, Crew and Livvi.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herb; and son in law, Mark.

Donna’s entire family is thankful for the gift of her presence in their lives, for the lessons she taught us, the kindness she showed us and that love will forever reside in our hearts.
