To the world, his official name was Dontae, but to those of us who knew him, lived with him, and loved him, he was simply "Brother." It wasn’t just a nickname; it was an identity. It was a title he earned every single day through the way he lived his life and the way he looked out for the people around him.
Dontae was our middle brother. Growing up, our family had a special bond, shaped deeply by the connection we shared with each other and our younger brother, Johnathan. Being the middle sibling comes with its own unique dynamic, but Dontae stepped into that role with a natural, quiet strength. He was a bridge for us, a constant presence, and the person we knew would always have our backs, no matter what code or conflict the world threw our way.
If I had to choose the traits that defined Dontae’s core, they would undoubtedly be his fierce loyalty and his deep sense of protection. His loyalty wasn’t passive; it was an active, unwavering commitment to his loved ones. When Dontae was in your corner, you never had to face a hardship alone. He provided a shield for all of us. Whether it was watching over Johnathan and me when we were younger, or offering a steady, protective presence as we grew into adulthood, he made sure his family felt safe. He was our anchor, our defender, and our safe harbor.
It is incredibly difficult to face a future without his physical presence, his strength, and his laughter. But the protection and love he wrapped around us during his life doesn't vanish. It stays with us. Every time Johnathan and I look out for one another, and every time we stand up to protect the people we love, we are carrying Dontae’s spirit forward.
Thank you, Brother, for your loyalty, your fierce love, and for always keeping us safe. We love you, and we will miss you every day. Rest in peace.
Love your big brother Dejon
