Dora Mae (Dodie) Tipton Soderholm was born in Portland, OR on August 15, 1933 and died July 8, 2019 in Forest Grove, OR. She was just shy of her 86th birthday. She was a current resident of Jennings McCall.
She lived her early years in Vernonia but most all of her adult life in Hillsboro, OR. She graduated from Hillsboro High School, where she met her husband Larry “Doc” Soderholm. They were married 61 yrs. and raised 4 children. Briefly after graduating she attended Oregon State University and then worked in San Francisco, CA before moving to Pullman, WA while Larry was in Veterinary School at Washington State College.
Her husband, Lawrence (Larry) Soderholm Jr. proceeded her in death in December of 2015. Also proceeding her in death were her parents, Robert Tipton and Hazel Tipton, her sisters, Alberta Hoffman and Lavelle Mahlman, two grandchildren, Jaime Bass and Joel Bass and one great-grandchild, Daniel Villafon.
Dodie was creative, enjoyed floral arranging, art and sewing. She loved music, played the piano, recorded a vocal album while in San Francisco and was in a chorale group “Forest Grove Gleeman and Gals” for a number of years. She also sang in a chorale group at Claremont when they lived in that development in Bethany. She volunteered in the Tuality Hospital Auxiliary and especially loved any work involving the newborns…..she loved babies! She enjoyed travel and entertaining. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church and later Grace Lutheran Church, both of Hillsboro, OR.
Surviving her are her children: Wendy (Rick) Thompson-Hillsboro, OR, Terri (Mike) Mann-Black Diamond, WA, Christy (Bob) Trotter-Portland, OR and Mark (Hannah) Soderholm-Portland, OR. Grandchildren: Shawn Mann, Rachel Boehme, Aaron (Marie)Bass, Jessica Bass, Cole Trotter, Molly Trotter, Dylan Trotter. Brother-in-law: Paul (Carol)Soderholm and 6 great-grandchildren: Tanner, Matthew, Dominique, Caden, Waylon and Jolene.
A private family graveside service will be held July 27th at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
