
Doris Moran of Portland, died on April 16, 2014 after a brief illness just a few days before her 94th birthday. She was born April 20, 1920 in Boston, MA to Henry and Annie O’Brien. After leaving school, she worked at the shipyards in Hingham, MA as an IBM Machine Operator. During WWII she was active in USO and was an Air Raid Warden in Weymouth, MA where she grew up. She moved to Portland about 1944 and soon began working at BPA in the Finance Department and then later the mail room where she met her future husband, Leo Moran. They were married in 1946 and had 5 children. They moved to north Portland in 1953 and have been members of Holy Cross Catholic Church since that time Doris loved traveling, sight seeing and visiting family across the country. The children remember trips to the midwest and the east coast every couple of years, After retirement, Doris and Leo continued traveling in their motor home, sometimes taking extended trips for months at a time. Later, Doris visited Ireland twice with her daughters. Doris had many hobbies, one of them being genealogy. She talked to relatives on these trips and kept notebooks of information which became the foundation for an extensive family history. Other hobbies included sewing, weaving, needlecrafts, macramé, painting, and catalog shopping. Survivors include sons Mike (Dianna), Tim (Wendy) and Kevin (Heidi); daughters Patty (Jim) Norlin and Jeanne (Doug) Wilson; sister Betty Higgs; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; sister, Mary; and brother, Richard. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Holy Cross Area School Endowment Fund. Arrangements by Ross Hollywood Chapel.
