When I first met Dorothy she was the Assistant Principal at Centennial;then she went to Barlow when it opened with Al Thede as Principal and I worked with her there.  She was one of the most caring of people and loved those kids even tho they all got nervous when they were with her; she was a great lady!

Mrs. Bumala was Asst. Principal at Barlow and we were the first 4 year graduating class.  We went to her for everything.  She was a great lady, even handed, fair and fun.  She helped shape what Barlow was and what we are today. I have only fond memories of her and the others at Barlow. 
  I read with a smile the reflections of Mr. Crouser and others before her time at Barlow.

Just today my daughter, who was a student at Barlow High School in Dorothy's era and I were mentioning her in some remembrances.  She was a very formidable force for the girls at Barlow high School in those years.  My husband,Sam also taught there and always had great respect for her as a good leader and fine lady.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family on her passing.

Dorothy was the assistant principal  at Sam Barlow and my supervisor when the school opened.  Iplayed at Calaroga Terrace on Oct 4th and had the chance to talk to Dorothy for 10-15 minutes. She said that she used the yellow paper and purple ink in her notes because her hand writing was so bad.   It was good visiting with her and she remember and talked about everyone that I brought up.  She said her best memories at Sam Barlow were the people.

Dorothy was a regular guest at the local restaurant I worked at.  She was a faithful patron for the fourteen years I was there. What a lovely lady. I enjoyed the stories from her life. 
I was saddened when she moved out of the neighborhood...more saddened today.  I know everyone she encountered she touched their lives.  Dorothy will be missed. My loving thoughts go out to her family. My fond memories will keep her forever in my heart.

During my first three years of high school, Mrs. Bumala was the Dean of Women at Centennial High School.
Everyone(underscored) respected her, and wayward students feared her justice. She could be a daunting presence, but was clear, fair and caring. She was the Assistant Principal at Barlow when I was hired as a newbie English teacher, and quickly dispelled my apprehensions. She was welcoming,warm,supportive, and always communicated with clarity and her sincere, wide smile. I will remember her with fondly.

Dorothy Bumala was an Assistant Principal at Barlow when I was hired as a teacher.   She was always professional and easy to work with.  I enjoyed having her come in to observe my classes or just to follow up on a question as we did not have email at that time.  I remember at my first Barlow women's Christmas  party she really liked my butterscotch cookies made with rum.  She made me feel welcome as a new teacher at Barlow.

Dorothy was my math teacher when I was a student at Gresham High.  then she hired me as a  teacher at Barlow.  she was the fastest person I had ever seen on the comtompeter, an adding machine that was used before all of the electronic equipment.  she will be fondly remembered.
