Skip was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 7, 1931 to Earl and Elizabeth Twietmeyer. They moved from Toledo to Portland, Oregon in 1947 where he attended Franklin High School, graduating in 1949. After high school Skip attended the University of Portland, graduating with a degree in Business Administration in Industrial Sciences in 1955. Skip served in the Oregon Air National Guard from 1951-1956.
He worked many jobs as a young man ranging from running a carnival ride, working the concession stand at The Amphitheater on NE Union Avenue, a delivery driver, and various credit manager positions. In August of 1961 Skip was hired as a credit manager at United Radio Supply (URS). He eventually purchased URS in 1972. Over the course of his career, he expanded URS to include multiple locations across Oregon and Washington. Skip retired from active involvement at URS in 1997.
Skip met Elaine, the love of his life, in the fall of 1957 and they married in August of 1958. They started a family the next year, eventually having four children. As a family they enjoyed skiing, traveling, and they thoroughly enjoyed time at their beach house.
He had many interests outside of URS. These included classical music, reading, singing in the Portland Symphonic Choir, supporting Central Lutheran Church, and volunteering in the community. Skip enjoyed photography and documenting important life events for the family. For 26 years he sponsored an annual Sing Along Messiah, held at Central Lutheran Church. Skip took pride in this event and enjoyed the planning and coordination that it required.
Some words to describe Skip are generous, dedicated, humble, and hard working. He enjoyed helping others, but recognition wasn’t important to him. His love of family was apparent in all aspects of his life, he loved to share his children’s and grandchildren’s achievements. His devotion to Elaine, his wife of 64 years, was evident in everything he did.
Skip was a proud and confident man. He worked hard and instilled a strong work ethic in those around him. He enjoyed a good banter and meeting new people. He was a man of faith and often said the Lord had been good to him. Skip was loved and respected and will be missed by all. He will forever be remembered as a generous and caring husband, father, and grandfather.
Skip is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Massenger. He is survived by his wife Elaine and their four children, their spouses, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
