Edward Leon Addis II

Ed was a 1969 graduate of David Douglas high school. This is where he met his future wife, Phyllis Armstrong and they were married October 23, 1970. He entered the military in 1970 and left honorably in 1974. Ed wanted to get his college degree and worked at the post office full time while taking a full load at Portland State where he received his BA in business. Their first son, Eddie Addis III was born on November 19, 1974. A second son, Sean Addis was born October 26, 1983. A daughter Rachel Addis was born May 21, 1986. Family was the most important thing in Ed’s life. His children, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and any child lucky enough to meet him through his life knew how much he loved kids.

Ed was lucky enough to retire at age 55. He said it was the best decision he made. He was able to do his love of chess full time. He played postal chess for years and also got involved in the local youth, running clinics, small tournaments or just teaching.

First and foremost were his kids and grandkids. He could spend hours playing with his grandkids. Taking them to the park, walks or just exploring. He also found a passion for his once a week casino trip. Sometimes friends joined him or he went alone. After restrictions lifted he and Phyllis were able to go together twice. He was happy for that. Ed had a limit every casino trip, and it was a good thing as he had the worse of luck at blackjack. He either set a time to quit or quit when he lost his limited amount. Win or lose, he loved his weekly trips and loved visiting with the people as much as playing. Ed never met a stranger he didn’t talk to.

Ed is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his children Eddie, wife Mandi, Sean, fiancé Nata, Rachel, husband Nate, grandchildren Ireland, Sydney, Layla, Leon and Lexi. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter London. He is also survived by his brother Kevin Addis, sisters Sharon Marxmiller and Sheila Foyt and sister-in-law Kathie Mcbride. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
