Ed (he didn’t like being called Edward) was born in New York City on December 20, 1942. Due to a very difficult family life, he left home at the age of 15. He married Alice at a young age and had 2 sons, Damon and Jason. In the early ‘70s when that relationship ended, Ed moved to California, settling in the San Francisco Bay area. He was employed by a large, inner-city hospital, as the Assistant Director of the Healthcare Environmental Services Department. It was there that he met his current wife, Bev, a nurse, with whom he had a son, Ryan and a daughter, Kira. Ed and Bev celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in February of this year.
In spite of his difficult early life, Ed became a very successful businessman. He started a janitorial company with nothing but him, Bev and cleaning supplies, which grew into one of the largest, non-union, commercial janitorial companies in the area. In the late 80’s/early 90’s, Ed, an avid sports fan, entered the sports memorabilia field. Through his endeavors, he co-authored a State bill in California, resulting in oversight of autographed memorabilia. As a result of his venture into sports memorabilia, he met and became friends with Mickey Mantle. As an avid NY Yankee fan, this was a boyhood dream that he could have never imagined would come true.
Ed retired early, due to health issues, but did not stay idle. He became the designated team dad to his son’s football team and his daughter’s basketball team. The kids loved “Uncle Ed” and they all meant the world to him.
Ed and Bev moved to Oregon in December, 2018, to follow their daughter and her family. In addition to his wife and 4 children, Ed leaves behind son-in-law, Victor, daughters-in-law Gabriela and Cathy, his cherished grandchildren: Morghan, Kuba, Filip, Gianna, Liam, Joshua, Briana and great-grandson, Joey.
Papa, your keen sense of humor and deep love for your family will be greatly missed.
Ed is in the care of Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon.
