

Elizabeth (Betty) Emogene Sutton died peacefully on Saturday April 6, 2019 at the age of 90. She passed away in her home of 60 years in Portland, Oregon with family by her side, holding the hand of her beloved husband (James Max Christian) of 64 years. Betty was born on January 11, 1929 in Corvallis, Oregon to Arlouine Estelle Clevenger and George Charles Sutton.
She grew up with her parents and brother George Edward, graduated from Eugene High School, and subsequently from the University of Oregon where she received her degree in Education, graduating with honors. She went on to serve as a high school English and Latin teacher, a Guidance Counselor, and the Activities Director at the Baptist Manor for a combined total of 40 years.
Betty dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting those in her family and her community. She was the devoted wife to her best friend and soulmate Max, whom she married at the age of 25, as well as a loving and hard-working mother to her three children Max Jr., Carol, and Edward. Betty was also proud of her role as a grandmother to 6 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 8 great-grandchildren. Above all, she was committed to her relationship with God, her identity in Christ, and was devoted to her family and church communities. She loved to play the piano while Max played the saxophone by her side, was a talented writer and conversationalist, and is remembered by her friends and family for her kindness, humor, and charming wit.
Services will be held on Saturday April 13th at Advantage Funeral Home.
