Elizabeth Stella Glyzinski was born April 23, 1926 to Sylvester and Elizabeth and raised on a small farm in Galesville, Wisconsin with five sisters and one brother. She graduated from Galesville High School. In 1945, Elizabeth married Harland J. Hunter and had four children; Allan J, David M, Patricia A, and Jan E. Her husband worked for Boeing and moved the family to Seattle, Washington in 1961. A few years later in 1964 the family relocated to Portland and Elizabeth finally felt at home.
Elizabeth worked as a bookkeeper and an executive secretary for both Cal-Ore Machinery Co. and Elmer’s Restaurant corporate office until she retired. In 1987, she married Richard Johnson and they had a wonderful life together until he passed away in 2011.
Elizabeth was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking; pies were her specialty. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many beautiful articles of clothing for herself and her children. She took great pride in her home and yard. She grew roses, blueberry bushes and all types of plants and trees. She collected blown glass ornaments, fine china tea cups, cranberry glass and collector plates. Christmas was her favorite holiday; she loved decorating and making her home very warm and festive. Elizabeth loved shopping and was smartly dressed and always carefully groomed. Elizabeth loved to travel and visited much of the Midwest, West, South West, and Canada.
Through the years she stayed in contact with friends and neighbors including Leo Zubritskiy. Leo was a neighbor boy that did small jobs and yard work around the house. When it was time for Elizabeth to leave her beloved home and move to an assisted living facility, Leo and his wife Yelena, purchased her house.
While at Cherrywood Village she made many friends including Gordon McGriff. They were wonderful companions and enjoyed meals and many outings together. They had a small garden together with of course roses and were contemplating a trip just before she passed away.
Elizabeth is survived by her sisters Maryann and Dorothy; sons Allan and David (Donna); daughters Patricia and Jan; 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
