Joyce was born in Salem, Ohio to Gladys Ann (Leipper) and John Saint Hollinger. She was the second of three children. her parents; sister, Virginia Mae (Donald) Slagle; youngest son, Sylvester Jr. "Ves" and husband of 68 years, Sylvester S. "Sye" Dolinar preceded her in death.
She leaves her brother James (Martha) Hollinger of Salem, Ohio; a daughter, Sharyn (William) Park of Canby, OR and a son, John Frank (Sarah) Dolinar of New York City, six beloved grandchildren and three precious great grandchildren.
Friends introduced Joyce to Sye while she was still a senior in high school. They married in early 1943 as he was called up to join the 157th Infantry Regiment. Joyce went straight to secretarial work at E.W Bliss Co. and the Ration Board and as a Candy Striper at Salem Hospital.
Sye was discharged in late '45 to their new married life. He returned to work at Morgan Engineering as a welder and studied with them to become a Draftsman. He and his brother, Henry, formed Dolinar Brothers Building Contractors Co. and built many beautiful homes in Salem.
Joyce was the whole office staff for their enterprise and a busy Mother to three children born within six years.
In 1956 Sye and Joyce moved their family to Portland, Oregon to rejoin his parents and most siblings. After finding a new house on SE 84th and getting the children all settled into their new school, Joyce went back to work. She was hired in 1957 for office work at Consolidated Dairy Products Co. in Portland which distributed dairy products for the Darigold brand. She loved her work there and within a few years, she was promoted to be the Office and Credit Manager.
She held these responsible positions for 23 years and reluctantly retired in June of 1980.
In 1961 they moved into what was to be their heritage home on Mt. Scott which Sye designed and built. He lived there until shortly before his death in June, 2011. After 54 years, Joyce decided in Dec. '14 she was ready to move to Rackleff Place in Canby to be closer to Shari's family.
Joyce loved to travel, embroider, read, do puzzles and was always busy. Most of all, she loved her family and especially her kiddos, young and old. Great Grandma Jo will be desperately missed every single day.
