He was born on April 21, 1929, in Corsica, South Dakota, to Edward and Hattie Beukelman.
Woody developed a strong work ethic early in life—working in the fields, delivering cream, and playing sports. His family later moved to Nampa, Idaho, where he attended Northwest Nazarene College. He earned a degree in business administration while playing on the baseball and basketball teams all four years.
Woody met Phyllis Roberson while in college, and they were engaged shortly after. They were married on March 8, 1952, in Glendale, Arizona. At the time, he was stationed at Camp Roberts with the United States Army. Shortly after their wedding, he was deployed to serve in the 7th Infantry in Korea.
Elwood was a devoted husband to Phyllis and a loving father to his children. He had the charismatic personality and sense of humor that perfectly suited his long and successful career as a sales manager at Willamette Industries. He loved golf, outdoor activities, and traveling the world.
Two of his most treasured memories are a mission trip to Kenya with his church and golfing at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in Scotland.
Woody will be remembered for his sense of humor, friendly spirit, gift for storytelling, and unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three children, Elwood, Ed, and Brenda; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He loved well and was well loved.
