

Emilia was born in Jalisco, Mexico on January 10, 1923 to Urbano Gomes and Paz de la Fuente. She came to the United States from Guadalajara in August of 1944, settling in San Francisco. She worked as a seamstress in the textile industry, and for See’s Candies. On December 12, 1953, Emilia was united in marriage to Edward Schluntz in San Francisco.
They moved to Oregon in 1964, following Edward’s career. After starting their family, Emilia became a homemaker. Her home was the family hub; meals, special occasions, and holidays were all big events at Emilia’s house. The family enjoyed vacations, camping, and trips along the Columbia when they owned a boat. Emilia was also an accomplished needleworker, enjoying sewing, knitting, and crochet.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, and by her daughter, Suzanne O’Donnell.
She is survived by her children, Charles Schluntz and wife Becky of Gresham, OR, Norma Elorriaga of Portland, OR , and Emily Loftgren and husband Joseph of Vancouver, WA;
Former husband Edward Schluntz of Laguna Woods, CA;
Son-in-law John O’Donnell;
Grandchildren Steven Schluntz, Kari Schluntz, and Joshua Schluntz, Theresa O’Donnell and Sarah O’Donnell, Christopher Elorriaga, Katharine Elorriaga, and Elizabeth Elorriaga, and Miles Raker;
And by great-granddaughter Theresa "Paige" Jordan.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Thursday, June 30 at 10:00 AM at St. Rita Catholic Church in Portland, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Mrs. Schluntz will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.
