Eva was born in Mitchell, Nebraska. She was the youngest of twelve children: 10 girls, 2 boys. She took on many of the daily, household chores at a young age while growing up in the Scottsbluff area.
In 1946 she moved to Portland to stay with her sister and family. She got her first job at the Fred Meyer store on Killingsworth and Union, now known as M.L.K Blvd. That began her career at Fred Meyer, where she worked for 38 years. Her hard work and always-ready smile was soon recognized by those she worked for, and with. Earl Charles, Eva Meyer’s son, referred to Eva as a “people person.”
Eva worked at various stores in the Portland area and helped set up new stores at different locations, like Salem. Eva helped set up the store at 82nd and Foster and became section head of the photo department. For the last 15 years, Eva was section head of the candy department at 5th and Morrison, then at 6th and Alder.
Since her retirement from Fred Meyer she has enjoyed just being at home and has taken several trips to different places here in the states with her sisters and brothers who still lived in Nebraska and Illinois.
Eva loved her family and the many friends she has made down through the many years of her life.
Her passing has left a hole in our family but not in our hearts because she filled them with memories, photographs, tradition and pie!
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, August 14 in Valley View Evangelical Church in Happy Valley. A viewing will be from 11:00am to 5:00pm, Wednesday, August 13 in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Eva is survived by her husband, Manuel; sister, Darlene; sons, Erne and Danny; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and an extraordinary amount of cousins, nieces and nephews.
