

Evelyn Jean Burns passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, at the age of 95, in Milwaukie, Oregon. Born on June 16, 1929, Evelyn's life was marked by her devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Evelyn married Glen Burns on November 18, 1947, at the Vancouver Washington Justice of the Peace in a memorable double wedding with close friends. Their love story began unexpectedly when Evelyn's family visited Tillamook Blimp Base, where Glen served as a Marine Corps Guard. Evelyn's warmth and friendliness left a lasting impression on everyone she met, making her a beloved figure in her community.
A graduate of the Portland Commerce (Girl's Poly) in 1947, Evelyn dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, a role she embraced with passion and excellence. Her home was a hub of love and activity, always filled with the laughter of children and the warmth of hospitality.
Evelyn was a devout member of University Park Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she was actively involved with the Church Youth, Sunday School, and Hospitality. Her commitment also extended to supporting the Boy Scouts, Brownies, and Little League Baseball, reflecting her love for nurturing young lives.
Her hobbies included gardening and enjoying great food, always finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. Evelyn's love for outdoor activities was often shared with her children, showing her support for their interests and endeavors.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Lawrence Burns and Wayne Burns; her daughter, Mary Downey; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glen Burns; her daughter, Susan Norman; and her parents, Mary Bechtel and William Schuky.
A Graveside Service for family and close friends will be held at 1:00 PM on October 15, 2024, at Skyline Memorial Gardens, followed by a Celebration of Life reception at 1:30 PM at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any Children's organization or Military organization of your choice, honoring Evelyn's lifelong commitment to nurturing the young and her respect for military service.
