Evelyn Felice Norwood

Evelyn was born in New York, NY, to Bernat and Paula Clark, and grew up with a deep love of culture, learning, and family. She carried her passion for literature into her education at Herbert H. Lehman College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, and later at Manhattan University, where she earned a Master of Science in Special Education and Teaching. She had a fulfilling career as a special education teacher in the Bronx, where she worked from 1983 until her retirement in 2002. Evelyn’s dedication to her students left an indelible mark on the lives she touched during her years with the New York City Public Schools system.

In 1965, Evelyn married Jay W. Norwood in New York City. Together they shared 24 wonderful years of marriage before Jay’s passing. Their union was marked by love, laughter, and the joy of raising their family.

After retiring, Evelyn relocated to DeLand, Florida, where she became a cherished member of the community. In her final months, she moved to Portland to be near family while receiving care.

Evelyn’s life was centered on family and the people she loved most. She is survived by her daughters Marcy Norwood Lynch and Lisa Norwood; granddaughters Cassidy Lynch and Abigail Lynch; brother-in-law Neil Norwood and sister-in-law Debbie Norwood; niece Lauren Norwood; and nephew Daniel Norwood. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jay W. Norwood.

A woman of many talents and interests, Evelyn found joy in reading, swimming, traveling, sewing, crafting, cooking, crocheting, watching movies and TV shows, and playing mahjong—a game she excelled at both for its strategy and the camaraderie it brought into her life. She also had a deep appreciation for the arts and culture; whether exploring museums or attending theater performances, Evelyn embraced creativity with enthusiasm.

Her sharp wit and sense of humor brought light to those around her. An avid traveler with an insatiable curiosity for new experiences, Evelyn approached life with warmth and intelligence that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Evelyn will be remembered for her kindness, humor, intellect, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her memory will continue to bring comfort to those who loved her as they reflect on the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.

Evelyn was laid to rest in a private graveside service with family on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Avenue, West Babylon, NY 11704.
