Faith Arnett Gill

February 7, 1937August 8, 2018

Faith Arnett Gill passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on August 8, 2018, after a battle with kidney failure.

Faith was born February 7, 1937 to Donald and Esther Capper Ulmer in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. She was the second of three daughters.

Faith grew up in Portland and attended Jefferson High School, Class of 1955. She was a very popular student, active in both leadership and the Varsity rally squad.

In high school, Faith needed a date for a special dance and took a chance by asking Robert “Bob” Gill, a shy football player. Their relationship grew, but only after a slow start. They needed to become good friends first. Faith attended Oregon State for two years and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. When Bob was accepted into dental school, the 20-year-olds were married June 22,1957. They supported each other for 61 years. The Lord blessed them with four children and six granddaughters.

After dental school, the US Navy moved the family to Camp Pendleton in CA for two years. By 1963, a practice opportunity took the family to Medford OR for seven years. There, Faith was active in raising her children and helping at the office. She demonstrated her leadership qualities through Welcome Wagon and Community Concerts. Returning to Portland in 1970, Faith’s activities continued as the family settled in the Eastmoreland neighborhood. As a Christian, Faith devoted 38 years to leadership, and teaching women the bible at Bible Study Fellowship.

Faith is survived by her husband and four children, Michael (Tina), Myrtle Creek, Scott, Amy Candello (David), and Alison Bruun (Scott) and six granddaughters, Miranda Maynard, Brea KY, Emily Candello, Marissa and Brittany Gill, and Natalie and Katie Bruun. She is also survived by two sisters, Claudia Harlow, Medford, and Patti Hobbs (Dewayne), Shasta Lake City, CA.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at Village Baptist Church, 330 SW Murray Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005.

Contributions may be made to: Gales Creek Camp for Children with Type 1 Diabetes, 6950 SW Hampton St. Suite 242, Tigard, OR. 97223.

Bob and Family,

It has been wonderful to have known you and Faith as neighbors for almost 25 years. We knew she was a very special, sweet woman, and she will be missed. Her service was beautiful, and we learned much more about her from the wonderful memories and video shared by your children and granddaughter. We knew you were both Beaver fans, and especially loved the stories of Faith dressing her granddaughters in Beaver colors and taking pictures when their mother was a Duckie.

Dear Bob and family,

While I have known Faith and you for just four short years, I know that she was a very special person and that you and she had a wonderful life together. I am very sorry for your loss and know that someday you will be together again. Thoughts and prayers are with you, Amy, and the rest of your family.

I remember the fun times we had playing together on Congress Street when we were quite young. Your sisters, Patty and Claudia were there, too. No matter how hard you tried I could never learn to tumble!
To the family, sending caring feelings for the pain of the passing of Faith.
