

Florence Marion Gudgel was born May, 22, 1925 in Baker, Oregon to John and Florence Whisman. She was the firstborn of four children. She was followed by her sister Elaine, brother Jack and sister Carolyn. She grew up in Bates, Oregon and Baker, Oregon through her junior year in high school at which time her family moved to Portland. She graduated high school at Jefferson High in Portland, Oregon in 1943. After high school she went to work in shipyards during WWII. She later worked as a bookkeeper. She married Robert B. Hunter in 1947 and had a daughter, Barbara in 1948. After Robert died in 1948 she remarried Eddie R. Gudgel in 1950, and in 1953 had a son. Daniel.
Marion was an avid gardener and home maker her whole life. She loved to dance, bowl, golf, and swim. She volunteered over 10,000 hours at St. Vincent’s hospital in Beaverton. Later in life she took up quilting and made hundreds of quilts that she gave away to friends, family and those in need.
She was a member of Murray Hills Christian church for over 50 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara, son Dan and grandchildren, Matthew Williams, Kristen Erb, Elizabeth Williams and Andrew Williams. And 7 great grand children.
She celebrated her 100th birthday May 22, 2025 surrounded by friends and family. She enjoyed every day. Her final words to all, “Be Thankful!”
and she was.
