

She was raised in Astoria and graduated from Astoria High School. The following three years she was employed at the First National Bank in Astoria. In 1946 Frances became the bride of George Crandall who had been serving in the U.S Navy during World War II.
The couple moved to Corvallis, OR in 1947, George enrolled at OSU, and Frances worked in the Benton County Bank. After George's graduation in 1951, they moved to Fortuna, CA where George became the Fortuna High School “Heavyweight” basketball coach and Frances became a stay-at-home mom to their first two daughters born there.
They returned to Oregon in 1954 where George was head coach at Milwaukie and eventually at Wilson High School, and their family added another daughter and a son. They were married just three days short of 75 years as George passed in 2021. Through his 33 years of coaching, Frances was a strong supporter of George's coaching career and his basketball teams. She remained a loyal Trailblazer fan until her passing.
In 1967, Frances went to work with Portland Public Schools as an Administrative Secretary until retiring in 1984. As a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Frances participated in the Altar Guild, Ushers, Greeters, and Quilters.
In her retirement, Frances enjoyed traveling with George across the country with their travel trailer seeing new sites and making new friends with whom they stayed in touch for years to come. She also enjoyed aquatic exercises at the Southwest Community Center. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchild. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother.
Preceding Frances in death were her parents, husband George, brother Vido and sisters Marie, Winifred and Catherine. Surviving her are her daughters Connie McKay, Gini Miller (Randy), and Robin Crandall, and her son Craig Crandall (Connie). Also surviving are grandchildren Arin, Seann and Connor McKay; R.J. Miller (Kari), Jeff Miller, Ryan Miller, Courtney Schwagler (Mike); Megan Crandall and Jake Crandall (Danielle); and great grandson Weston Schwagler.

A private memorial is planned for Monday, April 27 at Skyline Memorial Gardens. Flowers may be sent there in her name at that time.
