She was born in Tacoma, Washington on August 5, 1922 to her parents, Seijiro Niiya and Tomi Matsuhata Niiya. She grew up in Portland, Oregon, where she graduated from Girls Polytechnic High School.
She married Shigeo Itami on December 6, 1939.
For over 70 years, Fumie owned and worked at Kern Park Floral. Outside of work, she held a great love for sports – particularly basketball, baseball, and bowling. She loved to watch the Portland Trail Blazers and the Mariners.
Fumie is survived by her sister-in-law Kikue Yasunobu, son Robert & Kris Itami; grandchildren Troy & Alicia, Brian & Courtney, Ashli, Tomi & Mark, Taunya Totten, Tami & Kevin, Chad, Tim & Jolene, Holly & Chris; 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Fumie did not want a service. Instead, the family recommends making a charitable donation in her memory to the Japanese Ancestral Society’s Ikoi No Kai Lunch Program at 1333 SE 28th Ave, Portland, OR 97214.
