Gail was born on September 22, 1925, in Germany to Fred and Anna Brandt. Her family moved to Woodbine, Kansas when she was two years old. Gail grew up on the family farm in Kansas until the family moved to Beaverton in 1941.
The Brandt family made their home on a 40 acre farm in Beaverton and began attending Irving Park Church of God. Gail met a young sailor named Al Haus at the Oaks Amusement Park skating rink and they began attending Skidmore German Church together. The couple was separated during World War II when Al was sent to the South Pacific. Upon his return in 1946 they were married in the Holiday Park Church of God and spent the next month travelling on their honeymoon. The couple was blessed with two children, Karen and Steve.
She and her husband, Al, spent countless hours working with their metal products business for well over 40 years. Gail was a hard worker and, in addition to the family business, she worked at Newberry’s as a cosmetologist and then later at Lipman’s and Sears before transitioning to restaurant work. She worked first at Yaw’s Top Notch and then, in 1963, went to work at The Old Country Kitchen for 20 years. Gail regularly helped her father on his farm picking strawberries and when she started her own family, it became a family activity.
Gail was a fun loving and outgoing person. She loved her family and was a proud mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family get-togethers, parties, and holidays as well as travelling, especially to the coast. Gail loved to garden and was a lawn fanatic, keeping her yard looking like a park year round. Church was an important part of Gail’s life. She and Al attended Woodstock Church of God and then later Mt. Scott Church of God.
Gail passed away on October 31, 2015 in Bend, Oregon. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Karen (Al) Bunnell; son, Steve (JoAnn) Haus; grandson, David Bunnell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; and her sisters, Frieda Magathan and Ruth Woodward.
Gail will be laid to rest with Al in Skyline Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Scott Church of God.
