Gary LaVern Welsh was born June 15th 1973 to James and Marjorie Welsh (Jim and Ann). Gary grew up in Milwaukie Oregon with his sister Malinda who he fondly called Minnie Kay. Gary move to Ogden Utah with is parents in 1992. Then in 1995 he and his parents moved to Omaha Nebraska.
He attended vocational training workshops in both Ogden and Omaha. Gary and his parents relocated back to Milwaukie in 1998. From that time until a week before his death he attended the PASS workshop. In December of 2011 he moved to a group home in Portland and lived there until his death on April 9th 2016.
Gary loved music. If you played an instrument, especially guitar or banjo, you were a friend for life. His niece and nephew remember the joy he got from music and how that brought joy to those around him. Gary had an amazing memory. In 1991 a family friend played the guitar for him 1 evening, it wasn't until 2011 that Gary saw Michael again and he not only recognized him right away but his 1st word to him was Guitar? He remembered little details from family vacations and years later when we went back to the same places he would bring those details up. Gary liked to know the plans, just like his sister, each day he wanted to know what was happening tomorrow, you would often hear him say "Pass tomorrow? and until it was confirmed he would continue to ask. Gary liked routine and he would remind you of it if something changed.
Gary was a very special guy and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He was loved by all that had the special opportunity to get to know him.
Gary is survived by his parents James and Marjorie Welsh, 1 Sister Malinda Cole and husband Karl,1 Niece Rosanna Mersereau, and husband Jonathan, and 1 nephew Grant Cole, as well as many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
