

Gene Sause, prominent business man, died on April 10, 2022 at his home in Lake Oswego. Born in 1934 in Garibaldi, Mr. Sause was the youngest of seven brothers born to Mary and Henry Sause, Sr. Gene Sause spent his early years alternating between school and working in the family’s marine towing business off the Oregon and California coasts. He served in the army in Korea as a military police officer for two years. Upon his return, he entered Multnomah College and met his wife, Eunice. After marrying in September 1958, they moved to Eugene where Gene finished his degree from the University of Oregon majoring in transportation and economics. Mr. Sause worked for Marsh & McLennan insurance brokers handling their marine insurance clientele. At night, Mr. Sause attended Northwestern School of Law, receiving a Master’s Degree in Jurisprudence. After working for another insurance company, Dooley and Company, Mr. Sause decided that his marine clients needed more personalized service. In 1976, he began his own marine insurance firm, Gene Sause & Co. Twenty years later, he sold his company to Aon Risk. In 1996, Mr. Sause retired and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, playing golf and tennis, and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Sause, three children- Steven and his wife Geri, Michael Sause, and Carol Pausz. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
