

George Jacob Blatner died peacefully at his home in NE Portland on November 10, 2016. George was born on Sept 26th, 1921 in Sterling Colorado to Ernest and Anna Blatner. As a young child the family moved to Portland Oregon where he attended Immaculate Heart grade school, Jefferson High School, and the University of Portland, where he received a B.A. in Liberal Arts. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and saw action in Europe. In 1952 he married Martha Haspert. They lived in Lebanon Oregon where George worked in the sawmills. Later they moved to Portland where George was employed by the State of Oregon as a Parole and Probation officer/supervisor. After retiring he became an avid gardener, loved playing handball, volunteered for St. Vincent DePaul Society, and spent time with his family and friends. He was a very kind man with a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed. George is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Daniel) Reilly, Jean Blatner, John (Loretta) Blatner, Anne Blatner, Michael (Mary Rose) Blatner, Charles (Maureen) Blatner, 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and brother Ernest Blatner. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha, his brother Joseph, and sisters Margaret and Ann. A rosary will be recited Thursday November 17th at 7pm at Zellers Chapel of the Roses. The funeral Mass will be Friday November 18th at 10am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers please send donations to St Vincent DePaul.
