George O. DeWitz Jr.

George died at 91 years of age.

He enlisted in the Navy at age 14 and served a tour of five years in the South Pacific during WWII. A business career in radio and advertising spotlighted the many talents he offered the industry, ultimately owning KRDR in Gresham and KAAR in Yakima, WA. He launched the first FM Country music station in the USA.

George was a mentor to many people in media sales and inspired several people toward careers in the industry. He was highly regarded for his creativity and enjoyed every aspect of the business.

After selling his stations he owned and operated DeWitz DeWitz Advertising, a full-service advertising agency, for 20 years along with his wife, Marilyn, and son, Bill. He retired in 1999 and voraciously continued the pursuit of his education. He built a legacy of his own vocal recordings, singing songs from the big band era and other favorites.

George was the loving husband of Marilyn DeWitz. They traveled together, worked together, raised a family of six together and lived an uncommon love story.

Preceding Mr. DeWitz in death was one son, Dr. Mark D. Groven. Surviving children are: sons, Scott, Mark A., Jeffrey and Bill; daughter, Suzy Hingson; grandchildren: Josh, Nathan, Stephanie, Nicole, Johnny, Molly, Sarah, Anna, Rachel, Danny; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Emma, Isabel, Royce, Lincoln and Evie.

George was a large presence in the lives of his family and friends. His happiest moments were spent with his tightly-woven family. His life is not to be mourned but continued in love.
