George Donald Rouska, affectionately known as Uncle Don to five generations of family, passed away early Sunday morning, March 25th, at the age of 100 years. His wife, Eva Marie, passed before him in 1984 at the age of 77. They had no children.
Uncle Don was born to parents John F. and Alice B. (Griswold) Rouska in Marshalltown, Iowa on December 4, 1911. He was a WWII veteran and retired from the active and reserve Army as a Major. He and his wife Eva Marie moved to Oregon in the 1950's where he eventually became a precision machinist. He worked as a machinist for 28 years, most of those years for Bingham Willamette.
George was extremely intelligent. He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved family camping, hunting, fishing, puzzles, and bad puns. George also loved sports, in particular, baseball and hockey. However, the pillar of his life was family. Five generations of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends looked to him for guidance and help. He was a natural caregiver, gentlemanly, compassionate, and noble. The world has lost a rare and wonderful man who will truly be missed.
A Celebration of George's life will take place on Thursday, March 29th at 1pm in Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel and Hospitlaity Room.
He will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens.
