George A. Snell was born October 29, 1934 to Ernest and Melita Snell in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Benson High School and went on to serve in the United States Army as an equipment engineer from 1953 -1955. While in the military he completed a year-long tour in Japan. He married Harriet Hartley in 195¬5 and together raised five children. They lived for many years in Portland, where George owned and operated his own welding company. Upon retiring he and Harriet moved to Sandy, Oregon, where many weekends were spent entertaining family and friends. Their love for the beach lead the couple to live in Rockaway Beach, Oregon for several years. George returned to the Portland area in recent years to be closer to his family due to his ailing health. He was an avid reader and spent much of his time working the daily crossword puzzles.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Snell in 2002; daughter, Patty Jo Snell in 1993; his parents, two sisters and an infant brother. He leaves behind sons, Jeff, David, and John Snell ; daughter, Debbie Snell-Zieglar; and two brothers; Richard and Donald Snell. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
