Georgiana Jean Yee passed away on January 6, 2018 due to complications from the flu. She was born on May 10, 1929, in Aurora OR. She grew up in a large family, the 16th child of 17 siblings. Fanny Chin, her first foster mother was a strong influence, shaping many of Georgiana’s lifelong values.
Georgiana attended Couch Elementary School and Lincoln High School.
Georgiana married Gene Yee in 1950 and had two children and remained in Portland most of her life until she moved to Sherwood in 1996.
Georgiana was active as a life long learner, mother and wife and restaurant co-owner of the Diamond Head restaurant. She always wanted to improve herself as well as the life of her children, and help others.
Georgiana took modeling classes and also studied art at the Portland Art Museum to improve her artistic abilities in multiple mediums, and she constantly perfected her mastery of the English language and her English writing ability. She was an avid reader, and kept up on current affairs so she could interact with others. Georgiana managed to juggle the restaurant business demands and also take the family to the Oregon coast every weekend for many years. She loved to travel locally to pick fresh berries and chestnuts, hunt for mushrooms, fish, smelt dip and dig for razor clams.
She enjoyed sewing and knitting, bowled in leagues, cherished visits to the dog and horse tracks and later, casinos. She loved to can jellies and jams and bake, and would readily cook up extravagant meals for large parties. Her pies were to die for.
She also enjoyed traveling within the US and Canada, touring many national parks and national museums.
After retiring from the restaurant business in 1978, she worked briefly for the Multnomah Board of Equalization and the Oregon Department of education as an evaluator of statewide reading assessments.
Georgiana is survived by her son, Kenneth G. Yee, her daughter Cynthia A. Yee, her sister, Lillian Choi and her brother and sister in law, Albert and Joyce Chinn, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, sisters: Mary, Jean and Helen, and brothers Willie and Bing.
A funeral service will take place Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. in Portland, followed by a mausoleum committal service at 1:00 pm. Please visit Georgiana’s website at www.lincolnmemorialpk.com
