At 17 years of age, she met and fell in love with a musician, Earl Robert Locke. They were married within a few weeks on January 12, 1937, and this Union lasted until September 11, 1996 when Earl passed away. During those years they had three daughters - Earlena (deceased), Roberta (deceased) and LaVona, whom they loved and cherished.
Gerry, as everyone called her, worked for Fred Meyer as a cosmetic specialist for approximately twenty years. She had made many friends which lasted their lifetimes, for she had outlived them all.
Her three daughters gave her ten grandchildren: Angela, Diana, Lonnie, Earl, Brett, Denise, Michelle, Daniel, Andrew and John. She has twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; my mother left quite the legacy!
My mother over the last 20 years took trips with me, spent time in California (where we did her favorite activity of going to the casinos), and went out to lunch several times a week. The time I spent with her was very special and we were extremely close. Mother was a very strong, loving, caring, and stubborn person who had a smile that no one could resist. She was my rock and inspiration, who taught me how to live and enjoy life. I loved her dearly and will miss her for the rest of my life.
Granddaughter Angela, better known as Binka to our family, had such a great relationship with her grandmother. Binka helped my mother when I was gone - taking her to appointments and spending time with her. She adored and loved my mother as if she were her own mother.
On April 11, 2016, my mother made her spiritual transition to join my father, her two daughters, siblings, parents, my son Danny, and her great-granddaughter Shannon.
