Sibling - Ruth
Gerda and her family grew up in Germany and lived there until her early 20’s. The family survived WWII, fled their home by boxcar to Austria, where they stayed until the war was over. Then they returned to Germany where the family owned and operated a grocery store in Frankfurt.
In Gerda’s early 20’s the family came by luxury ship to Quebec and then moved to Vancouver, BC, where Gerda met and married the father of her three children. Monica was born in Vancouver BC, Julie was born in San Jose, CA, and Rob was born in Salem, OR. The family lived in Salem for the balance of the marriage and childhood. Gerda was a homemaker and at times worked as a retail specialist, including a few years in a health food store, where she learned about vitamins and healthy living.
After that Gerda spent time in Vancouver BC with her father and then she relocated to West Linn to be near her children and grandchildren and remained there until 2021. She spent the last 2 years of her life at Somerset Assisted Living where she enjoyed her territorial view.
Gerda enjoyed working in the garden and definitely had a green thumb. She always had a beautiful vegetable and flower garden. She attended Gladstone SDA Church where she enjoyed singing and helping as needed. Gerda enjoyed baking and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with her children and 5 grandchildren. Gerda, and her second husband Richard, enjoyed traveling to places like the Oregon Coast, Hawaii, Florida, and cruising to The Caribbean.
Gerda lived a full life, and she was healthy for most of it. Gerda enjoyed living at Somerset Assisted Living, where another church member, Nina Halverson, visited her daily and spent quality time with her.
Gerda will be buried at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in the West Hills of Portland next to her late husband, Richard Cook.
