Gerda Irene Lian was born September 13, 1920 in Fairdale, North Dakota to parents Carl E. and Karoline (Haagen Hogfoss) Lian. She grew up, graduated from high school, worked on the family farm and as a housekeeper before moving to Oregon in 1946.
Gerda went to work for Fred Meyers and spent many years in the delicatessen area. She met Oddmund Thomassen and they were married August 31, 1959. Oddmund passed away in February of 1999. Gerda was a former member of the Sons of Norway, often travelled to Norway and was fluent in Norwegian. She loved to travel. She was also fond of all forms of music especially if it was sung by an operatic tenor. Her talents included playing the accordion and honky tonk piano.
Gerda had a love for sports (especially if it was the Trailblazers playing). She had an outgoing and zestful personality that generated many lifelong friendships. Her boundless energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed by all.
She is predeceased by her sister, Gladys H. Gould of Portland, OR, and her brother, Erling I. Lian of Owatonna, MN.
Those who survive her include nieces; Connie Elness of San Jose, CA, Ann Lian of McIntosh, MN, Carolyn Gould of Burlington, VT, Barbara Gould of Edisto Island, SC, and a nephew; Dennis Gould of Noti, OR
