Gilbert Porfirio Barrientos was born in Tulare, CA on October 19th, 1952 to the proud parents of Alice Garcia and Manuel Barrientos. At the age of 15 his family moved to Oregon where he received his education at Roosevelt High School and joined the track team. After graduation he joined Job Corp where he met the love of his life Eva Barrientos (his chicle) in 1972. They later married in 1974 and had six loving children Gilbert jr, Nancy, Maribella, Melinda, Alicia, and Ruby.

He worked at Kaiser Permanente Hospital/Clinic in Portland, OR starting July 5, 1978 and retired October 19, 2017 after working there for 39 years. He loved his job and co-workers and some would say Kaiser was his second home. He would brighten anyone's day and always had a smile on his face. He loved so many things it would be impossible to name them all. To name a few he loved his country, lifting weights, the Rams, Blazers, and looking sharp in his suit, hat and boots. He had a passion for fishing, flying kites at the beach, and eating menudo with a fresh pepsi at his favorite restaurant, King Burrito. He loved Boxing, always shouting at the TV yelling “get him!”. His devotion and relationship to his church and the lord was very strong, always making sure to say “god bless you” while saying goodbye. He was a deacon of his church and played his heart out on the drums for the lord. His love for music was so strong as his children will always remember them being woken up every weekend with his records playing in the background loudly throughout the house.

He was the best husband that Eva could ever ask for, taking the extra steps in everything he did to make her happy and to know she was loved. He loved his wife so much and always made her his top priority and always took care of her the best he could. He loved his grandchildren and will forever be remembered by teasing and chasing them around the house as they stole his hat and teasing him back. He never missed a family event, whether it be birthdays, the holidays, or even just surprise visits because his family was his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife Eva Barrientos, six children, twenty three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. His brother George and five sisters, Mary, Stella, Yolanda, Ruth, Debbie and many nieces and nephews.
